Fund Development and Communications Intern

The Development and Communications Office at Henry Lee Willis Community Center, Inc. seeks a creative, motivated and experienced individual to assist the office in all tasks, including donor relationships, social media and print marketing, and grants through a part-time internship. Interns can request to work on projects of interest and will be given more responsibility based on experience and skill.

We are looking for someone to start immediately and continue through the summer or to start at the beginning of summer. Generally, interns are expected to work 10-16 hours per week during the academic year and at least 16-20 hours per week during the summer. The schedule is flexible. 

Responsibilities and opportunities may include:

  • Writing and design for internal and external newsletters and communications
  • Assist with the marketing and public relations of the African American & Juneteenth Festival (to be held June 23, 2012)
  • Research of grants, foundations and funders
  • Assist with work related to the newly launched Board of Directors Fund Development Committee
  • Assist with work to develop and grow individual, business, and corporate donor database
  • Assist with design and copy for all agency marketing materials as we work to rebrand the organization
  • Write donation request letters and thank you cards
  • Phone calls to request donations and sponsorships and thank you phone calls
  • Create content (photos, video, and text) for print and online publications
  • Grant writing and editing
  • Additional opportunities and responsibilities as discussed with the Development and Communications staff and assigned by the Assistant Director of Development and Communications.
     
Beneficial skills and experience (not required, but helpful):

  • graphics programs, including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
  • Microsoft Office, inlcuding Publisher
  • writing for marketing and communications
  • social media and online marketing, including WordPress, Constant Contact, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.
  • event planning
  • use of Foundation Center, Guidestar, and other grant or non-profit databases
  • general non-profit experience


Willis Center is a minority-based human and social service agency based in Worcester. We provide substance abuse recovery services, serve children and adolescents, provide homeless family services, support developmentally disabled adults and children, engage the community in cultural and arts education, and distribute food and household goods.
