Academic Advisement
Academic Advisement provides youth with backgrounds of instability, abuse and trauma with individualized supports to impart them with the practical, organizational, and interpersonal skills needed to succeed in their academic career.
This unique program provides one-on-one and group tutoring, and support applying to college. Essential academic support is provided to school aged youth who are in foster care, including college students. The academic advisement staff are culturally competent and ensure that youth in Willis Center foster care have the academic opportunities that they deserve.
“It is a learning environment where the pressure to succeed may not be as hard for students.”- Kelly Proctor, Willis Center's Academic Advisor
Many children in foster care have experienced traumatic life events that negatively impacted their opportunities for academic engagement and a standard education. These children are often excited at the opportunity to have individually target academic support that focuses on their strengths and needs. Through academic advisement, children are given to opportunity to succeed in school.
If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a foster parent and opening your heart to help a child in need, contact the Willis Center at 508-755-9471.
Consider opening your heart and your home - experience the joys of helping a child heal and the reward of providing love to a child in need.
